Rangers owner on Cup: 'We're pretty close'
New York Rangers owner James Dolan is confident in his team -- so much so that he publicly admitted that the club is closing in on a Stanley Cup title.
"I'm very proud of the organization," Dolan told ESPN New York.com after the Rangers' 3-0 triumph over the Nashville Predators on Tuesday.
"I'm particularly proud of Mr. (Glen) Sather because all the way back to 2004 when things weren't going so well and we had a lot of free agents here and we decided to basically re-do the strategy, Glen and I made a pact.
"I gave him something, which I won't reveal today, but I gave him something to seal the pact. I said, 'You can't give it back to me until we win the Stanley Cup.' And I think we're pretty close to getting that thing back."
Henrik Lundqvist turned aside all 27 shots he faced to make fellow All-Star Dan Girardi's first-period goal stand up on Tuesday as the Rangers pulled ahead of the idle Chicago Blackhawks and St. Louis Blues to record an NHL-best 62 points.
